Chapter 1

When the coffee machine beeps to announce its work is done, Chloe's smile is bigger than herface can handle. It hurts, but she doesn't mind at all. She desperately needs that caffeine dose, before helping keep the world safe during the night.

Inhaling the delicious smell that comes from her huge cup, she touches the panel that is hidden in the back of the pantry in the mansion kitchen. The wall opens in half, revealing the elevator that starts in a big attic on the 3rd floor, goes through a cabinet beside the bedrooms and ends in the basement, where she is headed.

Renewed in a few seconds, or in a sip, Chloe lets the system do its job and gets out of the elevator when it's done. With a gentle smile she crosses the League base where she works. Her personal Watchtower is almost as big as the Queen Mansion. Bigger, actually, with an extension that leads to a road beside the property, from where they could come and go without being seen.

Training rooms, guns and equipment surrounded  by a lot of tech and space. That place was meant to be temporary after Connor's birth, but he just turned 5 years old and they were still there, getting bigger and better.

The building in Metropolis was still hers, but after she went with Oliver to Star City and Tess' death, it became just a place where the team could stay and use when they were in that part of the country. Even Clark barely used it. He would rather cross the country when he was called to help. His excuse was that he had an opportunity to be closer to Chloe, Oliver and Connor. That reason  was  easily accepted,  but  everybody  knew  that,  in  truth,  he  didn't  deal  well  with research and technology, which was weird for a reporter and the theme of several jokes.

In the beginning, it was hard to adapt to the changes, but being on the west coast brought her closer to the rest of the team and brought them all together. Old and new members of the JLA walked into Queen Mansion all  the time. Oliver  wanted to give them free rein, and Chloe wanted to keep them united.

Sitting in front of the huge wall of monitors, Chloe takes the last sip of her coffee. Turning the comfortable leather chair she looks at the time and sighs. It has been a long night with Victor, the coffee and the work didn't end at the same time, which took a lot more effort from her. She needs to sleep half an hour before Connor wakes up but she has one more thing to do.

Call Lucius Fox. Chloe looks sadly at the blurred bottom of the mug.

-What's the matter, Sullivan?

Chloe doesn't have to look at the screen to know whose voice it is. Just one person in the world called her by her maiden name and wouldn't miss an opportunity to tease her or Oliver. But Chloe looks at the huge monitor, ready to find the usual smile in the face worth more than a billion dollars.

-Bruce. I hope you didn't fall out of bed, after all it must be 8 am there? - Chloe pretends to be worried.

-Oh, your concern for me is charming, but please, no I didn't. Fall was the last thing I did in bed.- he reclines while Chloe rolls her eyes. - But I wasn't the only one. If you'll allow me to say... -he leans forward the screen with his hand on his chest.

-Just say it Wayne. - Chloe rolls her eyes, straightening the hair that insisted on falling from the bun she made at some point during the night.

-You look tired. Gorgeous and adorable and always, but tired.

-I'm torn between thanking you for the compliment and sending you to hunt bats. - She raises an eyebrow.

Bruce laughs throwing himself back the chair, loosening his tie.

-So I'll skip the opportunity and go to my initial purpose. Where is Lucius? - Chloe asks, crossing her arms on the table.

-I don't know. Went to take his morning vitamins? Doing yoga with the senior officials? - He shrugs.

-Bruce...

-He's an old man, Sullivan...

-Who must be fixing your toy or finding a way for you to break fewer bones. I saw the news. A plane? Really, Bruce?

-Oh, don't scold me for calling you like this, you know I love it. Besides, it's partially your fault. You preferred to marry Jonas than work for me. Teased me and left me, I have to find my fun elsewhere.

-First of all, I won't call you a knight, second, you never made a proposal and third and most important, I don't work for Oliver, I work with him, there's a huge difference - she assures.

-You hurt me - he grimaces.

Chloe sighs looking to the side. Bruce was impossible at times. The playboy in him was so strong when they met in the morning or outside a mission.

-Sorry if I hurt your 10 billion dollar ego, the caffeine hasn't kicked in. I'll be polite from now on. Can you ask Lucius to call me after you stop snooping his projects?

-Sure, Sullivan. Anything for my favorite hero. But what will Oliver say when he finds out you need services from one of my workers when you have all of Queen Industries in your pocket? -he teases, with the sassiest smirk after Oliver's she ever saw.

-That he knows that a security system designed by Lucius Fox is every girl's dream? - Chloe smiles innocently.

-Ah, if all women were like you, Sullivan...

-Queen, bat. Queen - Oliver says stopping behind Chloe, wearing nothing more than pajama pants. -And this one - he leans kissing behind her ear - has a husband. - he ends glaring atBruce with a smile. Proud.

-Come on. Everyone knows you got her drunk and dragged her to some chapel - Bruce doesn't get intimidated by Oliver's presence.

-Well, it worked -  Oliver says satisfied.

-Yes, I have to admit. I'd have done the same if I had your ungraceful mind, Queen - Bruce bows a little, but not showing humility at all, only veiled mockery.

Chloe rubs her temple. This happened every time, since Oliver and Bruce found out they were both heroes, since Oliver found out she met Bruce while they were apart, since Bruce found out she was Oliver's wife. This teen contest happened every time and she suspects it would keep happening.

-Do you want to be alone? I can leave - Chloe stops the glaring contest.

-No - Bruce answers first, looking at her.

-Good idea, but I'll go with you. Bruce can stay with... Alfred, while we go to the bedroom and I'll put you to bed. Bye, bat - Oliver finishes the call with a triumphant smile, not giving time for Bruce to answer.

-Oliver - Chloe was shocked how far they could provoke each other.

-Don’t 'Oliver' me. Come on, Tower - he puts Chloe on the floor and hugs her. -The day has dawned and you're still here.

-I know - She gives up protesting as soon as her body gets that comfortable hug, involuntarily snuggling her face into his chest. -The system Victor needed to hack was more complicated than he thought. I didn't even see the time until I finished my coffee.

Oliver laughs, making circles on her back while walking her to the elevator. Chloe had changed a lot in the last years. The responsibility with the team, the marriage, Connor, she had grown in an amazing and heroic way in his eyes and the eyes of the world, but some things were still her. Like giving herself completely to her family and friends.

-And Lucius? Did you talk to him? - he asks looking into her eyes.

-No. Bruce is being difficult - Chloe answers unhappily.

-I know exactly why - Oliver tightens his arm around her.

-Why? - Chloe wrinkles her forehead confused.

-Because he is the one who wants to create the system for you - Oliver tries to hide the nagging he felt about Bruce's fondness for Chloe and his constant habit of wanting to please her.

Chloe raises her eyebrow. Bruce seems to be in the way, disturbing her work with Lucius, she just didn't know why, but the way Oliver was possessively clutching her against him while they talked about Bruce was a great answer.

-Bruce can keep his little toys. It's either a Lucius Fox system or a Chloe Queen one - Chloe hugs her husband's waist and kisses his chest.

Oliver relaxes and smiles.

-Good God! Imagine you two together.  That's  a  real  danger  of  domination -  Oliver  teases entering the elevator.

-Finally you realized that everyone's lucky I'm not on the other side - Chloe stops outside the elevator, crossing her arms.

Oliver bites his smile, holding the door open and pressing a button on the side panel at the same time.

-We always knew it, Chloe. You'd be our downfall if you weren't on our side - Oliver agrees easily.

-I'd be the worst villain you ever fought - Chloe mocks.

-Oh, I'm sure. You'd have us leashed easily after what you did with the Suicide Squad - Oliver says truthfully. Chloe's intelligence never stopped amazing him.

-That was easy - she shrugs her shoulders

.-Don't let it go to your head too much. That's how bad guys start... and a radiation accident, most of the time - They look to each other frowning and laugh at the same time. -Now come here, imagining you so dangerous makes me want to kiss you.

Oliver pulls Chloe to the elevator, looking straight into her eyes. He holds her solid against him and covers her lips with his. Chloe moans and relaxes, holding his neck, pressing against his naked chest. The door closes and they start going up. The deep kiss lasts while they go through the first floor till they stop on the second. Breathless, they part after some time.

-Go to the shower, I'll meet you there soon - he whispers in her ear and pushes her out.

Nodding, Chloe goes out and crosses the long hall. The upstairs floor is already lit by the Spring sun. Rolling her head, she enters their room and sighs looking at the white, soft bed, where Oliver slept alone most of the night.

Forcing herself away from that amazing bed, Chloe starts removing her clothes on her way to the bathroom. A bath would soothe the fatigue she was feeling. Purposely leaving a trail on the floor she steps into the roomy shower.

She rolls her head, now under the warm water, when she feels Oliver's firm hand sliding on her belly. One second later he presses onto her. Without thinking Chloe leans back, putting her head on his chest. Oliver steps forward, taking them under the water while massaging her skin.Chloe closes her eyes and puts her arms on his. The feeling of the water and Oliver's body shaping and protecting hers was relaxing and extremely exciting. Oliver could make her feel light and turned on the same time.

-I missed you - Oliver whispers against her skin.

-Me too, I always do - she whispers with her eyes closed, tilting her head for the kisses Oliver was leaving on her neck.

-I  shouldn't have left you alone -  He didn't like to leave her alone dealing with the others' missions during the night.

-As much as I like your company, and I really do Archer, there wasn't much you could do - she rubs her hands on his arms.

-I could think of something... lots of things actually - Oliver speaks huskily a few centimeters from her ear. He feels Chloe tremble and slides a hand between her thighs.

-I  bet you could. One of the things that makes me love you is your incredible imagination - Chloe says with a deeper voice, pushing her hips against his erection.

-My imagination never stops when I look at or think of you. I can create many ways, places and situations to have you, Chloe - his tone is needy. His need for her never stopped or decreased.

-You have me, Ollie - Chloe cries when he takes a breast with his free hand. She rubs her legs, holding his hand there, while he worships her.

-Forever? - he asks pressing her clit harder.

-For...ever - she answers between breaths.

Oliver releases her breast to make her look up. His tongue travels along her jaw till it finds her mouth and sinks in, the familiar taste of coffee still there.

Chloe loses ground with the kiss. The heat growing between her legs makes her breathless, but she doesn't  want  to  finish  that  kiss.  She  puts  her  hand  between  them  and  finds  Oliver's member, she closes her hand around it and starts moving it just like his fingers were moving in and out her. The kiss becomes noisy, neither of them want to part.

-Oh my God - Chloe moans, letting her head fall before Oliver bites behind her ear. She feels his breathing become harder each minute.

-Chloe - he says between moans, he was close.

Oliver pulls his fingers off her and before she can protest he turns her, taking her feet off the floor, putting her legs around his waist.

-I need to be inside you... now - he presses his fingers on her thighs and pushes himself inside her.

Chloe holds her breath and clings to the glass door. Oliver holds still for a few seconds and she remembers how to breathe. Her body adapts soon and he starts moving faster and harder. They are in a hurry that morning, needing the release they give each other.

She presses her legs around him and they both moan with the move. Chloe releases the door and hugs Oliver, grabbing  his  hair.  He  sucks  the  skin  of  her  wet  neck,  moaning incomprehensible words, but she understood.

Her  release  comes  deliciously  slow,  getting  bigger  and  spreading  throughout  her body. Releasing a long moan, the pleasure of her orgasm travels through every cell till it gets lost in her trembling members. She kisses his jaw.

-I  love you too -  she says  while  Oliver  comes,  pressing her  body against  the wall  to  hold themselves.

They remain in a hug, eyes closed, letting each sense return to normal. When they return to the bedroom some time and a bath later, Chloe is wearing a bath robe and Oliver the same baggy pajama pants.

Oliver leads Chloe straight to the bed and she lets him, the sleepiness getting stronger. A few years ago she could stay awake 24 hours during a mission, today she couldn't unless it was really necessary.

-What time is it? - she asks crawling under the soft blanket.

-Hum - Oliver looks around while covering her legs - 7:30am.

-There's no time, Ollie. Because of you I didn't take my nap. Connor will run through the door any minute now - Chloe fakes a pout pushing the covers away.

-Funny. I don't remember hearing any complaints during the bath. And Connor will run through the door, give you a kiss, a bear hug and we'll go make the breakfast while you take a nap - He finishes covering Chloe to her waist again, giving no space for pleas.

-Yes, sir - Chloe smiles. She loved being taken care of by him. -Now, do we have time for one more kiss before the earthquake arrives? - she raises an eyebrow and makes Oliver sit beside her.

Oliver smiles, leaning. He affectionately rubs his nose on hers before their lips find each other one more time that morning. They hug and start deepening the kiss when the door hits against the wood table beside it. They stop, feeling a small but strong presence beside the bed.

-Good morning - Connor says, still bloated and unkempt from sleep, but with the same brilliant smile of his parents.

-Good morning, Con - Oliver answers.

-Good morning, my love - Chloe answers stretching out her arms to him.

Connor doesn't hesitate accepting his mom's arms and the bed she was offering him. He kisses her face and Chloe hugs him tight. Oliver laughs, proud of his family. This happened every day and he never got tired of it. Chloe loved Connor with every cell of her body, didn't hide at all how much he was loved and Connor loved her with all his heart. With the most pure and beautiful way a child can love a mother who gives him everything, from caring to the most amazing lessons.

He laughs out loud with the hug and kiss on the neck that she gives him, and Chloe lets him out of her arms, but not far away. He runs through the bed and throws himself on Oliver, putting his arms on his father's neck, asking for help. Oliver snuggles around him, protecting the kid from Chloe.

-Don't let her get me, Dad - Connor tightens against Oliver when Chloe stretches her arms towards him. -She's going to bite me.

-I'll protect you, Con. Momma bear won't squeeze you anymore - Oliver and Connor look at each other and the boy seems to calm down. -But I will. - Oliver throws his son in the middle of the bed and he and Chloe go to him while he cries between laughs.

-Help, help, help - he cries while kicking.

Chloe  and  Oliver  know  when  to  stop  and  lay  beside  their  son.  Connor  is  still laughing, breathless. Chloe puts her hand on her son's stomach, making circles to calm him down. Oliver looks at Con's shirt and exchanges a look with Chloe. If Lois could see the way her nephew was using the shirt she gave him, she'd talk for a whole week about how she was the greatest aunt in the world and how she was right, that Connor was a Sullivan-Lane.

-Whitesnake, huh? - Oliver stretches the t-shirt looking at the picture.

-Aunt Lois gave it to me. She said a Sullivan has to like "whitnak" - Connor shrugs his shoulders without really understanding why, he just liked the drawing, the white circle.

-I bet she did - Oliver looks at Chloe, who is holding in a laugh. Nodding, he sits on the bed, holding his son. -Now let's go, mom needs to rest. While she does, we'll make breakfast for the three of us.

-Already? - Chloe whimpers, not wanting to stay alone, she wanted her boys with her.

-Are you sick, mom? - Connor asks Chloe worriedly.

-No, she isn't, she just had to work all night while we slept, now it's her turn - Oliver explains standing up. Connor looks at him attentively.

-Okay, let's make her some pancakes then - he whispers into his father's ear. -But no coffee, she has to sleep.

-Hey - Chloe protests.

-You're totally right, boy - Oliver smiles walking to the door with his son in his arms, he turns to Chloe. -Before you say anything, my meetings don't start until a few hours, so Connor and I will spend some time together before he goes to school. Rest.

-Yes, sir - and she surrenders going to her side of the bed.

-Rest - Connor repeats his dad, pointing his finger at her.

-Yes, sir - Chloe salutes her son and the boys go away.

Connor was as head over heels in love with his father as Chloe was for both of them. They were her life. Everything was worth it because she had them beside her. Oliver said that Connor adored her and she knew it was true, Connor protected her from everything and everybody, something he got from his father. Each day they were more alike, and each day made Oliver prouder and prouder of being a dad.

Chloe hugs the pillow sighing. So much had happened and would still happen in their lives but there, in that moment, that morning, that day, she is happy... and grateful.

She doesn't take long to fall asleep, not wanting to lose even a minute with her boys. She's sleeping deeply when they come back with her breakfast.

Hours later she moves on the bed for the first time. She sits in a hurry taking some seconds to realize the time that had passed since she closed her eyes. She finds a note written by Oliver and signed by Connor.

Calmer, she stands up slowly, walking to the balcony. After pushing the glass door aside, she pushes the wood out. The view still takes her breath away. Queen Mansion was up on a hill, in Star City, the ocean down below, like an extended carpet. The girl from Kansas still surprised herself how far she had come, how different her life was from what she imagined. She knew nothing.

With a smile, Chloe comes back to the bedroom and chooses some clothes quickly. She needs to go back to work before it was time to pick up Connor. She stopped everything to go get her son. He just started going to school and she wanted to be present in this moment of his life, even if most of the time it seemed she needed it more than he did.

Totally forgetting Oliver's reminder of her coffee downstairs, she sits in front of her notebook, ready to start. Her rested mind is ready to start reading, but there are other plans for her. The phone rings as soon as she opens a new page.

-Chloe - she answers knowing it was her editor.

-I have a job for you and you're forbidden to say no.

-A job? Like the one I'm about to start? - Chloe asks uncertainly.

-Forget it. What I have is so much better.

-Forget? My job? You realize you're not making sense, don't you? - her editor was confusing sometimes.

-Keep your word contest  for  later,  where it's  going to be really  useful.  You're back on the streets, Sullivan - Rick tells her excitedly.

-What? - Chloe asks.

-All my reporters are busy and even if they weren't, you're my best one.

-Richard - she calls him by his full name -I'm no longer a reporter, I...

-Don't give me this bullshit, you were born for this. Perry never misses an opportunity to throw in my face the talent I let go to the dark side of the force and you know what? He's right. You're the best, he never says it but deep down he knows you could be bigger than your cousin if you hadn't, for reasons we mortals don't know, exchanged journalism for marriage.

-Wow, someone read the self-help books he got for Christmas - Chloe laughs, avoiding what he said for a few seconds. -But then again, I'm not a reporter anymore.

-You're a columnist, I know, I edit your columns. Actually I just read it first hand, because you know and I do too that they're perfect, little jewels... But they're exactly that, little, compared to what you can do.

-All this is because your reporters are hungover after the mayor's party yesterday, isn't it -Chloe avoids answering again.

-I'm not saying it. Being a reporter is in your blood - he insists.

Chloe laughs, turning the chair. Leaving journalism was easy when she found herself married to Oliver and expecting a child. She tried but she couldn't combine the three things. The conflict made her choose and she never regretted it, but she still wondered if maybe, one day...

-Do you accept or not? It's only an interview, if you want to continue it's yours, if not, your column will still be there next week - he offers again.

Chloe closes her eyes for a few seconds, not knowing what to say. The adrenalin runs through her body  with  just  the  expectation.  She  loved  what  she  did,  her  column,  but  still  loved journalism. She thinks a little more, weighing things. It'd only be an interview, nothing to worry about or take too seriously.

-Okay - she answers and hears his relieved breathing across the line.

-Thank God.

-Just tell me when and where - she says breathing heavily.

-Today, in a few hours. He's coming unannounced but agreed to talk to us exclusively.

-He? Who is he? - Chloe asks curiously.

-Brace yourself, girl, this interview will change your life.

The afternoon starts slowly for Oliver. Hours and hours of meetings make that part of the day drag. When he returns to his office, the sun starts to set on the horizon. He gives a quick look while walking around his desk, thinking of Chloe, the way he always did when looking at the sunset.

Beside the notebook his neglected cell phone blinks, asking for attention. He doesn't hesitate to take it. After all the time alone, he always called home and talked to Chloe. But that time she was the one trying to contact him. Eight missed calls and a voice message were enough to make his heart quicken. He ignores the calls and goes straight to the message.

-Ollie. I tried calling you, as you must've realized. I know the little club was meeting today for hours, so I didn't want to interrupt. But the thing is... I got a call from my editor, asking me to personally interview someone, he was insistent and I accepted...  without knowing who the person was...

Chloe's voice ends in a sigh and Oliver tenses on the spot.

-It's Lex, Ollie. He's coming to Star City by surprise this afternoon and the newspaper got an exclusive, and I took it.

Oliver tries to swallow the lump in his throat but he can't. Lex's name makes his mind work faster than he can follow. He almost yells at her, forgetting it was a message.

-I know exacly what you're going to say and I agree, but maybe this is a chance to find out what he's been doing and why he reappeared, without exposing ourselves.

Standing up in a second, Oliver starts walking through the room looking for his stuff, his keys. He needs to talk to her, but can';t stop listening.

-So, don't worry. Connor is home with Bart. The interview will happen in a hotel downtown, with lots of people around... At six...

Oliver finds his keys on the table at the same time Chloe says the time of the interview. He looks at the clock showing 6:10.

-If you hear this message and don't want me to go, I won't. If not I'll stick to the plan and we'll see each other later, okay? I love you.

-Chloe! - Oliver shouts, stopping in the center of the room, squeezing the phone between his fingers.

His heart beats violently against his chest. For ten minutes she and Lex had been in the same room. His wife and the man he killed.
